Baby #2 and Radio Silence

Guess who’s joining the Two-Under-Two Club!  Is there an initiation ceremony?  Bootcamp?  Prayer circle?  We’ll only be in for a week or so before Amelia graduates to a full on 2 year old, but I’m claiming it anyway because I feel I’ve earned the right.  Baby S will be here in late July, and of course we’re stoked!  We’re taking bets now on boy vs. girl if you want to throw some money in the pot!

Amelia was the easiest pregnancy, but #2 is not playing nice.  From Thanksgiving until the end of January, I spent the majority of my time throwing up or wishing I could (aren’t you so glad you tuned in for this?).  Thus, the radio silence.  No blog posts for me…just pretzel sticks and prayer.  I’m already resisting the “why can’t you be more like your sister” mantra.  Pray for us.

Thus far, #2 has taught me the following lessons:

Lesson 1

Respect your season.  This, the year of our Lord 2019, is the year of the side hustle, the get that bread (can I pull that phrase off?), the she believed so she did.  All of that is impossible to ignore, if not a little intoxicating.  We are women, hear us roar.  There are times for us to be absolutely killing it in pursuits of ministry, strong relationships, business, and life enriching pleasures.  There are also times to just sit back and rest.  It’s vital to know the difference.  As much as I wanted to be the absolute best version of me for my clients in Trimester 1, all I could manage was the bare bones.  At home, I could cook noodles and that’s all she wrote.  I didn’t work out, I didn’t wake up early for devotions- guys, I slept while baby slept.  And that’s okay, for a season.

Now that I’ve got my feet back under me, it’s time to bust out some really quality materials and strategies for my clients.  It’s time to set an alarm and read my Bible.  We’re back to making actual meals and leaving the house.  Come August and September, it will be a season of expecting nothing of myself but keeping littles alive.

The point is, know what season of life you’re in, and react accordingly.  Give yourself permission to take a step back and rest.  Know when it’s time to ramp back up.  We’re responsible for the time we’ve been given, so spend it wisely!

Lesson 2

Ask for help.  Get a sitter, take the nap, accept the meal, let them do the dishes.  I have a phenomenal tribe of friends and family who helped me fill the gaps the last three months.  I’m grateful for them.  Praise the Lord for those who bring supper and love on  your kids.

Lesson 3

When the doctor offers you the magical pills that make nausea go away, for the love of keeping food down, take the dang pills.  For real though, if any of you ladies are facing chronic, debilitating nausea- get the drugs.

Thanks for tuning in!  I plan to have a regular round of posts on faith, food, and finance coming out in the months pre-baby, so stay tuned!
